As tragic mass shootings become more deadly, Congress cannot simply hold another moment of silence without action – we cannot stand by while our siblings, parents and children get mowed down while they are going about their daily lives. If you cannot pass a background check, you should *not* be able to purchase a firearm. I do not want my daughters to have to grow up in a country that will not protect them from firearm violence. Earlier this week, Senator Dick Durbin and I re-introduced two pieces of comprehensive, common-sense solutions: the Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 and the Background Check Expansion Act. It’s long past time Congress took action.
