Funny...we're mandated to get car insurance even if you're a great driver. That's the way it works. The young and healthy help out the other Americans. I worked in the ER trauma. Those young people always need medical attention. Stop whining.
Good. Get rid of the mandate. It's indefensible. If I can't afford health insurance, I have to pay out 2.5% of my income or $695, whichever amount is greater. Imagine what that must be like to someone who can barely afford to scrape by, being forced to pay for insurance they can't afford or penalized for not being able to afford it.
We are required to have insurance on our homes and our automobiles. We are required to pay taxes and support programs that we oppose. These measures are required so that we can live in an ordered, civilized society. Everyone should have access to at least basic health care services. If the "mandate" furthers that objective, why should it be repealed? Let's pool our money and pay for the health care we need in the most economical way possible.
Woo hoo! Watch the free market drop rates! Woo hoo! I'm ready for my pre-mandate rates: $600 a month, $0.00 deductible, instead of this $1,350 a month, $6,000 deductible, government mandated nightmare! Woo hoo!
For anyone who says govt healthcare does not work, ask yourself what nations in the world have the best health? Japan, Sweden, i actually think Italily is #1 they all have some form of government healthcare.. they also eat better. In addition if you can point out how much less free these nations are please do so.
Honest question I'm confused...How does removing the individual mandate throw 13 million off insurance? Because 13 million people would not pay for insurance if you weren't fining them?
Rates used to go up before Obamacare and continued to go up after Obamacare. We don’t need these little patches to fix our healthcare, we need a complete overhaul.
How come a drug that is developed in the US by a US company costs $100 per month in the US, but $78 for an entire year supply if you get it from a foreign online pharmacy (at least that was my experience). And that $100 was just my co-pay after insurance covered a portion, while the $78 was the entire cost of the drug from a foreign pharmacy without insurance pitching in anything....
That is a legitimate question, I don’t know the answer, but I am ordering my medicine online whenever I can. Seems ridiculous that medicine developed in the US by a US company is 10 times more expensive here (and sometimes a lot more than 10 times).
You can argue if it's "our job" to guarantee health care to all. NO ONE will argue that we want the higher quality care for significantly lower cost per person. THAT, is what single payer coupled with universal care, offers. Quit giving the naysayers things to complain about Bernie (in this case, whether it is a right... or that it costs too much). What "costs too much" is healthcare under our current system.... significantly more than any other country in the world (per person), while delivering lower quality than 2 dozen western countries.
Health insurance for all should be same, not different for older, legislators, low income. Rates could be fairly based on income.
The "mandate" didn't work anyhow, I still have no health insurance, haven't for decades, yet not once did I obey the mandate nor pay the supposed fine. I dig you Bernie, but I have not and will not voluntarily, or involuntary, pay a dime into such a blatantly corrupt system, as you know it to be. Once that is fixed, and universal health care is on the table, I may change my mind. But not until afterward, in the current conditions I am the only authority there is.
