During the Obama presidency, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans used every tool they could find to stop noncontroversial, fair-minded judicial nominees from serving on our federal courts. Republicans allowed nominees to linger for months and years without a hearing or a vote, all to achieve one goal: to stack our courts with radical, right-wing, pro-corporate nominees.
Mitch McConnell sunk even lower in his recent comments, noting that he wants to end the decades-long tradition of allowing senators to weigh in on nominees for courts in their home states – a complete about-face from his position during the Obama administration. Why? So Republicans can ram through even more radical, right-wing, pro-corporate judges. Democrats will not sit silently by while the rich and powerful rig our courts. Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley should reject Mitch McConnell’s dangerous proposal and stand up for fair courts that ensure equal justice under law.
