In 1821, John Quincy Adams warned Congress that if America were ever to abandon its founding principle of non-interventionism in foreign affairs, she might well become the dictatress of the world.
Adams said: "Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her [America's] heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own."
That’s exactly the way the American people wanted it.
Unfortunately, about 70 years later, new generations would fall for the siren song of Empire.
Adams predicted what would happen to America if it ever stopped being an example of freedom, and instead went abroad in search of monsters to destroy.
His prediction was 100% correct, and we're living it now.
