Dave Chappelle Blasts Off With His Netflix Specials

He's coming back for his comedy crown

My sister taught comedian Dave Chappelle one year when he was a high school student at Washington D.C's Duke Ellington School for the Arts. When she asked about performing some of his stand-up for the class, a teenage Chappelle demurred. He didn't want anyone stealing his material, he said.

Dave Chappelle tells Gayle King he was scared of fame

ring a recent interview with CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King, Dave Chappelle spoke out not only about his famous decision to walk away from The Dave Chappelle Showat the height of his popularity but also his return to the spotlight with his new Netflix specials.

“I was talkin’ to a guy… he basically said to me that comedy is a reconciliation of paradox,” Chappelle recalled of his decision to leave his show. “And I think that that was a irreconcilable moment for me. That I was in this very successful place, but the emotional content of it didn’t feel anything like what I imagined success should feel like. It just didn’t feel right.”

Dave Chappelle Says Key & Peele Piggybacked On His Success

Dave Chappelle has been kind of critical of Key & Peele in the past. Maybe critical isn't the right word: He's been profane about his belief that he created their comedy lane. He's also taken light jabs at the duo in the past.
